Definition of Bandage:-

• Bandages are a material it is made up of cotton gauze, crape, elastic, etc…
Purpose of Bandages:-
• To cover retain dressings and splints in place,
• To protect a wound,
• To support as in sprain,
• To compress,
• To secure dressing,
• To immobilize in fracture plaster of Paris cast,
• To Control bleeding from wounds,
• To restrict movement,

Types of Bandage:-

• Triangular Bandages,
• Roller Bandage,
• Plaster,
• Adhesive

• Gauze Bandages,

• Crepe Bandages,

 

Triangular Bandages (Handkerchief bandages):-

• This type of Bandages is used in emergency treatment and first aid,
• Head bandage,
• Sling,
Roller Bandage:-
• Circular,
• Spiral, Recurrent,
Plaster:-
• It is made from plaster of Paris it immobilize fracture bone,
Adhesive plaster:-
• It used for fracture at Clavicle bone,

The general rule for applying bandages:-

• Spiral reverse,
• Figure of eight,
• Reassure the casualty when you are applying before Bandage, explain clearly what is your procedure going to do,
• Help the patient to lie down position are sitting, and comfortable position,
• Injured part should be supported well in you’re working  on it,
• Work from the front side of causality,
• Use sterile material and use aseptic technique,
• Cover the wound completely,
• Apply bandage firmly on dressing,
• Do not apply the bandage too tight it interfere or  decrease circulation,
• Do not apply the bandage too loose so that choice to dressing slips from the wounds,
• Use reef knots. Check for circulation:
• Check for circulation of Fingernail beds and Toenail beds,

Signs and symptoms of affected circulation:-

• Tingling sensation,
• Lack of feeling in toes and fingers by causality,
• Toe and fingers become very cold,
• Toe and nail beds are usually blue or pale,
• Weak or absent pulse or weak injured part,
